For people who live in two accounts
One Mac. Every account, its own app.
MacDupl clones the desktop apps you already use into fully isolated instances — separate logins, separate data, separate Dock icons. Work and personal, side by side. No more logging out.

Each clone is a genuine macOS app with its own identity — the original stays untouched and independently launchable. The numbers:
| Build time | ~2 s | APFS copy-on-write duplicate, assembled locally; launches instantly after that. |
|---|---|---|
| Extra disk | ~0 MB | Clones share disk blocks with the original — a 700 MB app costs almost nothing extra. |
| Isolation | complete | Every instance keeps its own logins, cookies, caches and preferences. Credentials never leak between clones — or into the shared Keychain. |
| Dock identity | 9 tints | Each clone gets a color-tinted, badged icon and a real identity in the Dock, Launchpad and app switcher. You always know which one is which. |
| Telemetry | none | No analytics, no cloud. The only network calls are license checks and app updates. |
| Management | 1 dashboard | Launch, stop, reset a session, recolor, or delete any instance from one place. MacDupl keeps itself updated with signed automatic updates. |
Three clicks to a second instance.
No configuration files, no command line, no browser profiles.

Questions, answered.
The honest fine print, before you ask.
Is this allowed by the apps I clone?
MacDupl only duplicates apps that are already installed on your Mac, locally, for your own use — nothing is redistributed or modified on any server. Some services have their own rules about multiple simultaneous accounts, so it’s your responsibility to comply with the terms of the apps you clone.
What happens when the original app updates?
Clones stay up to date with the original — sessions intact. MacDupl notices when the original’s version has changed and regenerates the clone from it automatically, both when MacDupl starts and when you hit Launch, keeping your login and data. One gap: opening a clone straight from the Dock or Spotlight while MacDupl isn’t running starts the older copy, which refreshes the next time MacDupl runs. The optional “Keep MacDupl running in the background” setting closes that gap.
Why does a clone ask for microphone / screen permissions again?
Because each clone is a genuinely separate app in macOS’s eyes, the system asks for permissions once per clone. That’s the flip side of real isolation — the same mechanism that keeps your accounts from leaking into each other.
Does it work with App Store apps?
Mostly no — with two exceptions. Most sandboxed App Store apps, like Microsoft Office, can’t be cloned: their data lives in a shared container a copy would still read, so MacDupl hides them rather than hand you a broken clone. WhatsApp works — each instance gets its own storage and links to WhatsApp as its own device. WeChat (the Mac App Store build) should work too — each instance gets its own storage and opens to its own login, though signing in isn’t hands-on tested yet. Both are Beta because an instance runs with one of macOS’s security protections (the hardened runtime) switched off; your original app keeps all of its protections, and this applies only to instances you create. Everything outside the sandbox — Electron apps, Chromium browsers and the Firefox family, where multi-account pain is worst — is fully supported.
Is any of my data sent anywhere?
No. MacDupl has no telemetry and no analytics. The only network requests it ever makes are validating your license key and checking for app updates.
How much disk space do clones use?
Almost none. Clones are APFS copy-on-write duplicates that share their disk blocks with the original app. Only each instance’s own data (logins, cache) takes real space.
What happens after the 3-day free trial?
Your data is never touched — nothing you made during the trial is deleted. You'll need to buy the $19 Pro license to keep creating or reopening instances after that. The “Add clone” button stays clickable and will show a prompt to upgrade.
Can I try Pro before buying?
Yes. The 3-day free trial unlocks everything Pro has — unlimited clones, all features, no card required. When it ends, buy the $19 license to keep going — a one-time payment, not a subscription.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. MacDupl is signed and notarized by Apple.
