Run two YouTube Music accounts on Mac

Verified Electron tier

There's no official YouTube Music desktop app — the one people install is the open-source th-ch/youtube-music project, an Electron wrapper around the web player. A MacDupl instance is a second, genuinely separate copy of it: its own Google account, its own library, its own Dock icon, running at the same time as your first.

What you get

Not an official Google app

The desktop app is the open-source th-ch/youtube-music project, distributed on GitHub — not by Google, and not through the Mac App Store. MacDupl clones whichever build you already have installed.

Verified hands-on on th-ch/youtube-music 3.12.0: original and clone open at the same time, each with a fully separate profile and account. It's an Electron app under the hood, so it gets the same isolation MacDupl verified for Claude, VS Code and Discord.

How to set it up

  1. Pick the app
Open MacDupl and choose YouTube Music from the list of apps installed on your Mac.
  2. Name and colour it
Call it “Work”, “Personal” or a client's name, and give it one of nine icon tints.
  3. Hit Create
About two seconds later there's a new YouTube Music in your Dock — sign into the second Google account — library and recommendations stay separate from the original.

Questions about YouTube Music

Is this the official YouTube Music app?

No — Google doesn't ship a YouTube Music desktop app. The one MacDupl clones is th-ch/youtube-music, an open-source Electron wrapper around music.youtube.com. MacDupl clones it the same way it clones any Electron app; it isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Google.

Can I sign into two different Google accounts?

Yes. Each instance holds its own login, library and recommendations, so a personal account and a family or work account can both stay signed in.

Is my listening history shared between instances?

No. Each instance has its own isolated data directory, so history, library and settings stay separate.

What if I just use the website in two browser tabs?

Tabs share one browser session, so signing into a second account signs you out of the first. Instances are separate apps with separate sessions — both stay signed in at once.
